Monuments To Dr. Bowditch and Noah Worcester

Whereas at a meeting of the Trustees held at the Porters Lodge in the Cem^y. on the 12^th day of April 1838 the assent of the Trustees was obtained to the appropriation of a Lot in the Cem^y. for the erection of a monument to Dr. Bowditch & of another Lot to the erection of a Monument to the Rev.^d Noah Worcester

Voted. That the Comm^ee on Lots are authorized to assign Lots for those purposes.

Grants of Lots. none gratuitous

Voted. To take up Mr Parkers motion made & laid on the table at the last meeting

Monument to J.S. Buckminster

To the Trustees of the Pros. of Mt. Aub^rn Gentlemen. The undersigned in behalf of a Comm^ee appointed by the Standing Com^ee of the Society in Brattle Square propose to erect a monument or Cenotaph at Mount Auburn to the memory of the late Joseph S. Buckminster The funds will be raised by subscription among the Parishioners & other friends

Pursuant to notices issued in the usual manner by the Secretary the Trustees met at the office of C.P. Curtis Esquire on the sixth day of August A.D. eighteen hundred and forty seven at twelve o'clock M. Present Messrs Bigelow, C.P. Curtis, Crockett, Gould, Gray and Parker, and Read

Treasurer's salary.

The committee on the Treasurer's salary made a verbal report concluding with a recommendation that the Trustees make no change in the salary of the Treasurer, and the report was unanimously accepted.

Bowditch Statue.

Voted. That the Committee on Lots be authorized, in regard to the land to be sold to the Committee on the Bowditch Statue, to dispense with the choice money.

Statue of Mr Justice Story.

Voted. That C.P. Curtis and J.C. Gray be a committee with authority to make a contract if they shall deem it expedient, with William W. Story Esquire, for a Statue in marble of the late Mr Justice Story to be delivered at Mount Auburn -- provided it can be done, of full size with pedestal, for the sum of money in the Treasu-

W. Story to execute a statue of the late Judge (his father) in marble: and the Committee submitted to the Trustees the papers in relation to the same. Voted. that the report be accepted, and that the contract referred to be placed in the hands of the Treasurer, the correspondence and other papers to remain on the Secretary's files.

Lot. 67.

The application of Sarah H. Oliver widow and ex- ecutrix of Henry J. Oliver late of Brookline, or Rox- bury, was presented to the meeting. Said applica- tion set forth that said Henry died being the pro- prietor of lot 67. on Holly Path, but, having in his last will made no specific devise thereof, that said lot passed under the residuary clause which gave to the said Sarah the management during her life of such residuary property: she therefore requested the Trustees to designate her as the person entitled to represent said lot and to receive a ticket of admission into the Cemetery - Thereupon Voted. that the re- quest be granted. and that Mrs Oliver be desig- nated. and be entitled to a ticket, accordingly

Bowditch Statue.

Whereas the Trustees of the subscribers to the Statue of the late Dr Bowditch have paid the customary price for the land on which the Statue now stands therefore. Voted. that the land included within the exterior side of the fence around said Statue be and the same is hereby appropriated and dedicated forever to the use and purpose of sus- taining and protecting the said Statue.

Removal of a tree.

Voted. That the Committee on Lots examine the position &c of an Elm Tree, said to be intruding on Elm^^Central Avenue, between the gate and the Bowditch statue, and, if they shall deem it proper, cause the same to be removed. -Adjourned

S. Newell's Claim. Rejected.

The Committee to whom was referred the letter of Samuel Newell dated January 20^th 1852 (see page 225) requesting the gift of a lot, reported another letter from Mr Newell dated May 6. 1852, with the following additional report in writing, vis "That the Trustees ought not to comply with his request and that he have leave to withdraw." Thereupon it was

Bowditch Statue

Voted that a Committee of one be appointed to cause the Statue of Dr Bowditch to be repaired by stopping the holes and painting the whole of a bronze color, and that the President be that Committee.

Grading near the Well House.

Voted. That the President and Mr Little be a Comemittee to complete the grading in the vicinity of the well house.
