To the Honor the Mayor and the Common Council of the City of Seattle The undersigned respectfully shows: as follows to wit: that a certain grade tax on James Street on said City of Seattle covering Lot 3 in Block 35, Boren's Addition to Seattle, owned by your petitioner amounted to the sum of $195.75, And it was agreed between one Mr Lewellyn an abstractor and searcher of titles on behalf of your petitioner, by profession, and the City Attorney Mr Piles that your petitioner would pay the full sum taxed and then due without penalty or interest to wit: $195.75 which said Lewellyn for said purposes: that the general conflagration of fire on June 6th 1889 and by loss of many various papers and books Mr Lewellyn overlooked of forgot to pay said ta then due. That afterwards in due process of law the City of Seattle reserved judgement against your petitioner, the said John M Blanchard, by default in the sum of $268.00 which said sum has been satisfied and paid. Wherefore your Petitioner prays that the sum of $72.25 be restored to him and you petitioner will ever pray, etc. John M Blanchard
