62 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE consideration said ordinance is adopted by the following vote to wit: In favor of adoption Thomas Clancy, John Collins, Wm A Jennings, John Keenan and Charles McDonald against adoption none. And now the ordinance committee submit ordinance No 272 the same being entitled as follows to wit: A Special Ordinance to provide for the grading and improvement of Front Street - from the center line of Pike Street to the center line of Lake Avenue Street in the City of Seattle Countyof King and Territory of Washington" After due consideration said Ordinance is adopted by the following vote to wit: In favor of adoption Thomas Clancy, John Collins, Wm A Jennings, John Keenan and Charles McDonald. against adoption, none. And now the Ordinance Committee submit Ordinance No 273, the Same being entitled as follows to wit: A Special Ordinance to provide for the grading and improvement of Union Street from the center line of Front Street to the Center line of Eighth Street in the City of Seattle, County of King, and Territory of Washington" After due consideration said Ordinance is adopted by the following vote to wit: In favor of adoption Thomas C Clancy, John Collins, Wm A Jennings, John Keenan and Charles Mc Donald against adoption none. And now the Ordinance Committee submit Ordinance No 274, the same being entitled as follows towit: A Special Ordinance to provide as follows towit: " A Special Ordinance to provide for the construction of a Sidewalk along the East side of Eleventh Street from the South Side of Jackson Street to the SoughSide of Weller Street in the City of Seattle,County of King, and Territory of Washing ton" After due consideration of said ordinance is adopted by the following vote to wit: in favor of adoption Thomas Clancy John Collins, Wm a Jennings, John Keenan and Charles Mc Donald The Council proceeds to open the bids for the grading of the City lot in Second Street and the same are found to be as follows to wit: From Patrick Forest, offering to do the grading for 20 cents per yard; John Welch & Lawrence Doyle, for 26 cents per yard; A Quigley for 20 cents per yard; John Kevan for 26 cents per yard; John McClasky, Peter Peterson and William Morris

63 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE for 27 cents per yard; and R W McDaniels for 29 cents per yard The Special Committee on Engine House an instructed to let the contract for said grading to Patrick Forest and P Quigley for 20 cents per yard, their bids being the lowest and in case they will not take said contract as partners then the said committee should let the contract to one of said two lowest bidders Ordere that the Special Committee in Engine House be authorized to sell or tear down the house on the lot on Second Street where it is porposed to build a new Engine House. Ordered that the Street Committee be instructed to examine all stairways in the side walks in the city and report what actionif any shoul be taken by the Council Ordered that the Streets Commissioner be and he is hereby instructed to rail all dangerous places ini the streets and sidewalks for the City Ordered that the Council no stand adjourned until Friday evening May 12th 1882 Attest: E S Osborne clerk Approved L P Smith Mayor Be it remembered that on this 8th day of May 1882 the Common COuncil meets pursuant to law as a Board of Equalization for the purpost of equalizing the general assessment roll of the City of Seattle for the year 1882 Present, His Honor the Mayor, L P Smith and Councilmen Wm A Jennings, John Keenan and Charles McDonald There being no quorum present the council adjourns until Tuesday evening May 9th at 7&1/2 O'Clock Attest E S Osborne Clerk Approved L P Smith Mayor

94 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE July 7/82 the Council proceeds to open the bids for the clearing of the cemetary; the following bids had been received, viz. From B F Day for $180 per acre, J H Hener & J M Hoffman $600 for 2 acres, B F Lillie for $149 per acre, Patrick Forest $174 per scre Walter Frener for $165 per acre. The bid of B F Lillie being the lowest it is ordered that the contract be awarded to him at $149 per acre. Ordered that a warrant for $3250.00 be drawn on the Fire Fund in favor of John Collins, the proceeds to be used for the purchase of a new Gould Fire Engine. And now in pursuance of notice duly published the Council proceeds to the equalization fo the Special Assessment rolls under Ordinances Nos 284,281, and 276. No complaints being made against either of said special assessments it is ordered that they be and thay are hereby accepted and approved. The Ordinance Committee on instructed to submit Ordinance levying taxes in accordance with the provisions of Ordinances No 284 and 281.
