There being a vacancy in the office of Policeman the Council proceed to an election to fill such vacancy Whereupon Wm.B. Thompson securing a majority of all the votes of said Council he is duly declared elected to fill such vacancy A communication is received from the Surveyor relative to the grade of Second Street which is read. Ordered that the bids received in pursuance of the notices published as required by Ordinance Nos 260 & 261 be & They are hereby laid over until streets meeting And now the Cemetery Committee return the following bids to the Council for the slashing of the whole of the new City Cemetery which bids are now opened by the Council & read as follows tourist D.C.Whitney $45.00 Jacob H. Keith 175.00 Patrick Forrest 125.00 James B. Henderson 200.00 A.N. Nims 147.50 Whereupon is appearing to the Council that the bid of D.C. Whitley is the lowest & best bid received it is ordered that the contract be awarded to him accordingly Ordered that the Officers of the Police be & they are hereby required to wear their stars upon the outside of their coat collars Ordered that the Gas Committee be & they are hereby authorized to have the gas light posts painted Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned until Friday evening May 4 1882 Attest: E S Osborne, clerk Approve L.P.
