JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Be it remembered that on this the 16th day of June 1882, the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment of May 9th 1882. Present His Honor, the Mayor, L. P. Smith and Councilman John Collins, Thos Clancy, Wm. A. Jennings, John Keenan, Chas McDonald and G. L. Manning. Thereupon the following proceedings are had. The Ordinance Committee submit ordinance No 285, the same being entitled "An Ordinance to provide for the erection of a Building to be used as a Council Chamber, Fire Engine House and City Jail, in the City of Seattle, in the County of King and Territory of Washington." After due consideration said ordinance is adopted by the following vote, towit: In favor of adoption John Collins, Thos Clancy, Wm. A. Jennings, John Keenan, Charles McDonald and G. L. Manning. Against adoption, none. A petition is received from B. F. Day praying for the removal of a fence from 9th street and for permission to build a sidewalk; thereupon the same is referred to the Street Committee. A petition is received form Mrs E. Buscal et al praying for the placing of the gas lights on Second and Cherry Streets; thereupon the same is referred to the Gas Committee. Ordered that the Cemetery Committee be and they are hereby authorized to procure the cleaning of two(2) or more acres of the Cemetery. And now the Street Committee whom was referred the remonstrance of A. Spaulding et al against building the sidewalk on 11th street report on the same and recommend that said proposal sidewalk be not built; thereupon said report is adopted. And now the Council proceeds to reconsider the order if June 2nd 1881 by which the bid of T. P. Roberts on 11th street sidewalk was accepted; thereupon it is ordered that all bids for the construction of said sidewalk be rejected.

COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE And now the Street Committee submit a contract between the City and T. P. Roberts for the construction of a sidewalk on Jackson Street; Thereupon said contract is approved and it is ordered that the mayor and clerk be and they are hereby instructed to execute the same on behalf of the City. Ordered that the Marshall be instructed to remove the peanut stand from the corner of Front and James Street. Ordered that E. N. Rea, contractor, be and he is hereby granted the right to land stone, on the Washington Street incline, to be used in the construction of the new City Building. A petition is received from A. A. Bell et al praying that roadway on Tenth and Stewart Streets be changed; thereupon the same is referred to the Street Committee. A petition is received from J.H. Marshall et al praying for the opening of the alley in Block 2, Maynard's plat; thereupon said petition is granted. Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned until June 19th 1881, at 7:30 o'clock p.m. Attest: E S Osborne Clerk Approved L P Smith Mayor Be it remembered that on this the 19th day of June 1882, the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment of June 16th 1882; Present: His Honor, the Mayor L. P. Smith and Councilman John Collins, Wm. A. Jennings, Chas McDonald & G.L. Manning Ordered that George Baker be authorized to maintain a peanut stand on James & Front Street. Ordered that a committee consisting of Chas McDonald, Wm. A. Jennings and G. L. Manning be and is hereby appointed to take into consideration the matter of Street Grading the City of Seattle. 86 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Be it remembered that on this the 23rd day of June 1882, the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment of June 19th 1882. Present His Honor the Mayor L.P. Smith and Councilmen John Collins, Wm. A. Jennings, Chas McDonald, G. L. Manning, M. Densmore, and Thos Clancy. Thereupon the following proceedings was had: A petition is received from Stewart & Ebusned et al praying for the construction of a sidewalk on the west side of Front Street, the same is thereupon referred to the Street Committee. And now come Beede & Co and make applicaton for a license to retail liquor for the period of three months beginning July 1st 1882, and at the same time said applicants file their bond in accordance with the ordinance relating thereto. After due examination said bond is approved, and the said applicants making due proof that they are persons of good moral character it is therefore ordered that upon their compliance with all the other provisions of said ordinance that clerk be and he is hereby instructed to issue a license to said applicants for the period and purpose above specified. And now comes E. N. Rea, Contrator, and excutes a contract for the erection of the City Engine House, whereupon it is ordered that the Mayor and City Clerk be instructed to execute the same on behalf of the City. In accordance with the requirements of Ordinance No 285 the Mayor appoints a jail committee, towit John Collins, Chas McDonald, & M. Densmore. Ordered that the Chielf of Police be intructed to employ two extra night Policeman and two extra day Policeman for the 3rd and Fourth of July 1882.
