94 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE July 7/82 the Council proceeds to open the bids for the clearing of the cemetary; the following bids had been received, viz. From B F Day for $180 per acre, J H Hener & J M Hoffman $600 for 2 acres, B F Lillie for $149 per acre, Patrick Forest $174 per scre Walter Frener for $165 per acre. The bid of B F Lillie being the lowest it is ordered that the contract be awarded to him at $149 per acre. Ordered that a warrant for $3250.00 be drawn on the Fire Fund in favor of John Collins, the proceeds to be used for the purchase of a new Gould Fire Engine. And now in pursuance of notice duly published the Council proceeds to the equalization fo the Special Assessment rolls under Ordinances Nos 284,281, and 276. No complaints being made against either of said special assessments it is ordered that they be and thay are hereby accepted and approved. The Ordinance Committee on instructed to submit Ordinance levying taxes in accordance with the provisions of Ordinances No 284 and 281. Committee's Reports Rec'd From Finance asking 1 weeks further time on the assessor's petition granted From Streets recommending the granting of the petition M V B Stacy et al, for grading Madison Street. Adopted From Streets recommending the granting to Williamson & Kellogg the use of 20 feet in South side of Spring Street for 60 days, also the foot of Spring Street for a like period, all sidewalks to be unobstructed by them. Adopted From Streets on Petition of G W Young. Petition granted From Health & Police on petition of C M Bywater et al. Ordered that Comtee on Health & Police be & they are hereby instructed to abate the nuisance complained of.

281 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE June 18/83 From Streets recommending the granting of the petitionof E Calvery et al. Consideration postponed From Licenses & Revenue approving Clerk's Report on taxations Adopted. From Streets recommending the vacating of the alley in Block 19 of Boren's plat. Adopted & Attorney instructed to submit an ordinance therefor. Communications Rec'd From J G Kenyon notifying to Council to refrain from trespassing on Lot 2 Block C of A A Denny's Plat. Referred to the City Attorney. Licenses Granted The following licenses are ordered issued from the date & for the term, towit: Aug LeBallister & Co Retail for 3 months from June 22'83 Blanchard & Co Wholesale for 12 months from June 12'83 Blanchard & Co Retail for 12 months from June 12'83 Ang Mehlhorn 1 pigeon hole table 6 months from June 12'83 Special Orders of the Day Ordered that the Clerk be & he is hereby instructed to give 10 days public notice as required by law that a general election for all City Officers of the City of Seattle will be held on Monday July 9, 1883 The Officers to be elected are one Mayor, one Marshall, two Councilmen for First Ward, Three Councilmen for the Second Ward and two Councilmen for the Third Ward. The places hereby designated for holding said election and the Officers hereby appointed to conduct the same are as follows, to wit: First Ward Election to be held at the Office of T H Cann Esq a Justice of the Peace in Washington Street Inspector H S Alger, Judges C P Farrar & James Monogue. 314 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Aug 3/83 Be it remembered that on this the 3rd day of August 1883 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law. The following Officers are present to wit: His Honor the Mayor H G Struve and Councilmen Thomas Clancy, B F Day, B F Harris, Chas McDonald, U M Rasin, Otto Ranke and F W Wusthoff. Thereupon the following proceedings are had: By reasonof absence from the City of His Honor the Mayor H G Struve Councilman U M Rasin is appointed as acting Mayor to serve during such absence. Petitions Received The various petitions received were referred to Special Committees and afterwards reported back to theCouncil without action & made the order of business for next meeting.
