Ma'râtā 7:45 A.M. Temp 64° Baro L. 28.30 clear, calm.

P. left camp 1:59 Ihrâkeh 2:32, Ḳaṭrah 3:00, Sha'arrā 3:26 Kerrâten 4:15 walking horse. He left Kerrâten 5:24, Sha'arrā 6:06, Ḳaṭrah 6:28, Ihrâkeh 6:52 Ma'râtā 7:25 walking, trotting & cantering. He went to Kerrâten for the purpose of dressing the wound of a Beduin woman whom he had helped previously. She had a badly anffected? leg caused by a burn due to fainting & falling in the fire. Her husband while we were camped at Kerrâten had come to us and implored that we go to his tent to see his sick brother. P. went & was shown the sick woman. Her husband making humble apologies to him for the deception. The poor man thought that if we knew it was only a woman who was sick we would scorn at the idea of helping her, but that if he got one of us in his tent it might be hard to refuse.

B. L. & N. left camp 2:00 iṣ-Ṣērûnī, 2:32, small ruin complete hardly more than a stone pile. Left 3:08 Abu Difneh 3:26 about same description. Left 3:45 crossed modern road 3:58 from Ma'arrit in-Nu'mân to Village of Berseh reported by guide to be 3/4 hrs. to E. of us concealed from view by rise of ground. Road running E.N.E. arrived Mi'ziyân 4" - about same description ( 1/2 hr. E. is Kursiyan (1/2 hr W. by N. is Kuruntul - stone pile) Left 4:37 going S.W. Ḥêzar same description 5:20 Left 5:55 going 172° to camp 6:16
