[written lengthwise, left of page] The Evidence taken at the Inquiry - Minutes of proceedings then[?] [as?] being herewith forwarded - together with Mr Johnston's explanation - within - in my opinion an [and] quite sufficient refutation of the charges laid against that officer - I have also called for expressions of opinion from all the other chief Residents of the District - upon the charges &c [etc.]. And their communications will be forwarded also if required.

I here beg to state that neither the person Hall - who prefers these charges nor any of these persons associated with him came forward
