Chandernagore it had been raining & lightning much. got a short clear interval to go across went in a open boat rain came on heavy when on the other side took train on to Chandernagore called on Clement. he was out sent for him gave him Henricks letter shewed me much attention Visited Balghur 3.4. dibbs turned in early.

Got a ghanie this morning & drove to Hoogly. Visited a Musselman Mosque very handsome one natives would not let us go inside without taking off out shoes which we would not do. went into the galleries & looked down upon. returned to Clemen's

house about 10 had breakfast went out & saw the other Cheroot house had a thousand put up for me walked out on the Strand after dinner. saw French sepoys. the Govr. 300 a month 3 rupees wanted for a Gharrie to Serampore resolved to wait & go down by train in the mg.
Monday March 7th. 1859
Clemen & I went up to the station this mg. bid him Good bye went on to Serampore took Gharrie to Bailey's went across to see Dr. Brown after a Cup of Coffee break fasted with him. Came to the other side after breakfast called on Smith at the Friend of India office
