after had dinner & went up to St. Pauls in the evg. again. Called at Dicey's. Asked to take tea with him after church went there met Mrs. D.

Monday Feby. 21st. 1859

Called on McGregor to day. sent a penc[?] to shew me Mrs. Ogilvies house. Met Bowen & Dibbs at the Exchange. had a rotten old Gharrie from Kedgeree. Called at Mrs. Ogilvies agreed to take a room. 80 Rs. a month. got my large box out of the ship & sent my Madras servant with it to my lodging with 2 coolies. Went up in the evg. with Dibbs in the Buggy. took quarters at Mrs. Ogilvies my traps did not arrive & made search all round about for them did not come had

been to Scott Thomsons with them & left again. Could not get them this evg. Met several ladies & gent boarders. Mrs. O. her daughter Mrs. Phillips & Low. two darkies Mrs. Osmond Mr. Richmond two brothers Dickson Mr. Thomas

During the last week I have continued to live at Mrs. Ogilvies calling at Kidderpore occasionally I have applied for leave from Govt. for 6 months & engaged to go home Surgeon in the Ivanhoe intending to pass if possible the Cos. Examination in London. poor Johnson is up from Anacan & is dying at the Genl. Hospital. Dined with Capt & Mrs. Dicey one evening last week. The

ladies here are very kind & attentive Mrs. Richmond Mrs. Osmond gave me a selection of ferns. Mrs. Osmond [Ogilvie struck through, osmond written above] promised a letter of introduction to a party in Elgin. Mrs. Miller also a friend of Ehen of Edinr. is a good friend. Mrs. Phillips her son & young Dickson are newly arrd. from England

omitted writing up journal to this time but nothing of importance has occurred been living at Mrs. Ogilvie's & going out some where every day. Dined over at Capt. Eales & with Mrs. Mr. Miller at the latter. Met Mrs. Hughesdon from Akyab pretended to have partialy for- got me. [scored through: got] We have prayers before breakfast @ 9 dinner
