says Dadson has retd. from the Cape Called on Smith at Doveton College going up to Serampore in a fort night to be Editor of the Friend of India Mrs. I Child gone home & McLaren with Dysentery. Called back at S T Ho. returned on bd. at 5 Dibbs going out for a drive in a Buggy & take little Willie Law home went up with them Called at S T Ho. Dibbs went to Call on Dicey wenr up stair to wait Dibbs retd. about 8 took a drive round & went on bd. Cassiagni came on bd. & stayed all night met Beckett in going out this mg. said he was going on ev did not go. Mail sr. arrived

Up at Sunrise buggy ordered for 10 to go up to Church late of coming went up with Dibbs

after had dinner & went up to St. Pauls in the evg. again. Called at Dicey's. Asked to take tea with him after church went there met Mrs. D.

Monday Feby. 21st. 1859

Called on McGregor to day. sent a penc[?] to shew me Mrs. Ogilvies house. Met Bowen & Dibbs at the Exchange. had a rotten old Gharrie from Kedgeree. Called at Mrs. Ogilvies agreed to take a room. 80 Rs. a month. got my large box out of the ship & sent my Madras servant with it to my lodging with 2 coolies. Went up in the evg. with Dibbs in the Buggy. took quarters at Mrs. Ogilvies my traps did not arrive & made search all round about for them did not come had

Transcription Conventions

Spelling: Maintain original spelling (including u/v, i/j, and ff). Long "s" should be replaced with a regular "s". Terminal long "i" characters are transcribed as "i" not "j".
Hyphenation: Preserve hyphens (including "=" characters) at the ends of lines.
Capitalization: Maintain original
Punctuation: Add modern periods, but don't add punctuation like commas and apostrophes.
Deletions: Deleted characters and words are tagged with "strike" and then displayed with the line through them.
Symbols: For apothecary and alchemical symbols, use these symbols followed by the meaning of the symbol in brackets: Rx [recipe]; ℈ [scruple]; ʒ [dram]; ʒs [half dram]; ℥ [ounce]; ℥s [half ounce]; ℔ [pound].
For roman numerals following symbols that indicate amount, i.e., j=1, ij=2, iij= 3, v=5, type arabic numeral in brackets following roman numeral: i [1], ii [2], iii [3], v [5].
Line Breaks: Hit return once after each line ends. Two returns indicate a new paragraph, which is usually indentation following the preceding sentence in the original. The times at the end of each entry should get their own paragraph, since the software does not support indentation in the transcriptions.
Illegible text: Indicate illegible readings in single square brackets: [Dr?]
A single newline indicates a line-break in the original document, and will not appear as a break in the text in some views or exports. Two newlines indicate a paragraph, and will appear as a paragraph break in all views.
