Dec 1 to 6th Gen Wyndham attacked by rebels at Cawnpore. [down into scored through] he retreated into entrenchments. tents of 4 regiments burned down by the sepoys. Releived by Sir Colin Campbell coming up to his assistance. Mail arrived from England per St [Steamer] Nubia, evening of Dec 5th. Commenced to write a letter home Sunday 6th have not as yet got any letters by this mail. Dec 6th to Jany. 19th. Still at Bany. Continued to dislike it. at last made up my mind to enter the companys service. got appointed to the "Proserpine". 12 guns Brig the Man of War for the Indian Coast. Joined her on the 19th. Saw Mr Bockeet Chf Officer on board. during the latter weeks I have received letters from home from Fred. & B, All well. Feby 12th. Received orders to join the transport Belgravia to take charge of sick & wounded to the Cape of Good Hope.

today felt very bad & turned into my bunk. Several lady passengers

Friday 16th, July 1858

Been very seedy all week have not been able to eat anything heavy dull weight about my eyes cannot turn them round. today feel somewhat better was able to take a little breakfast this morning first food since last Saturday morning this afternoon at 5 oclock Anchored in Akyab Harbour. saw "Proserpine" laying Dibbs came of in the ships Cutter got my traps in & went on board the "Proserpine" felt a great deal better. The ladies Mrs. Power, Miss Rickett & Miss Goldsworthy went ashore. saw them come of[f] to the Steamer in the evening when Cadian Dibbs & I went ashore. Called this evening on the Capt. & Mrs. Eals found not at home

Saturday Oct. 23rd. 1858.

During the last month have still continued on bd. [board] the "Proserpine" the weather has been very hot & close we have has another trip to Kyauk Phyoo & Sandoway the latter to take Mrs. Beddy up there. Have sent home Rs 100 for RL and a letter by each mail Received a letter from Jessie at Kyauk Phyoo August date. Wrote on the 18th Just to Barry McLaren house in answer to Jessies letter & an offer of service up county from the D.I. & the Govr. in Chief. have been atteg. Edith Mg. & Eg. Strong breeze of wind last night. No word from Fred or K yet.

This afternoon the proclamation of the Queen was read by the

Commisioner & 3 loyal salutes fired one at the lines, the "Proserpine" & the Marine Bungalow A year today since I arrived in Calcutta from England.

Saturday Nov 20th. 1858.

Today commenced again to keep my Journal up regularly writing it every morg. after breakfast. We have returned two days ago from another trip to Kyauk Phyoo & Sandoway & depart tomorrow morning at daybr eak for Chittagong. had a slight feverish attack yesterday which followed purging & vomiting of the night before. Got up at 1/2 past 5 oclock this morning. weather very cool on deck. 12 oclock Been reading this forenoon Horners pamphlet on Homeopathy sitting on the Quarterdeck of the "Proserpine"

sherry Capt. Ripley Eales Bowen came on bd . Went on bd. the "Proserpine" with the Dr. & 2nd. officer, had dinner Went & dined with Capt. Ripley in the Cos. party. Ripley (Hunt 2nd. Nemesis) Young Dr. Maynood Johnson Dibbs (East 1st. Nemesis) returned on bd. between 9 & 10.

Laying still at Anchor in Kyouk Phyoo Webt on bd. the Nemesis in the Afternoon. Bowen Dibb Johnson on bd.

Monday Jany. 31st. 1859

Capt. Gordon & Dr. Maynood came aboard this mg. Went on bd. the "Nemesis" Stayed all day Earl Dr. Ripley Capt. Eales & Gordon went to call on the Commissioner returned on br. between 4 & 5 dressed & went up to dine with Ripley a very large party 16 Comr.
