Chant Lot. Report from President respecting purchase of.

The President having submitted and read to the Board a communication in reference to the purchase of the Chant lot, pursuant to instructions contained in the vote adopted at the last meeting of the Board, it was

Voted, – that the Report of the President be ^^{accepted and} spread upon the record.

The Report is as follows:

To the Trustees of the Cemetery of Mount Auburn:

Gentlemen:

In accordance with a vote of the Board passed January 28, 1873, I have completed the purchase from John Corcoran of the "Chant Lot," containing about 2½ acres, at Eleven hundred ($1100.–) dollars, per acre.

Said land was conveyed to the corporation by warranty deed, dated February 4, 1873, and the sum of Five hundred ($500.–) dollars was on the same day, paid on account; and an agreement executed containing the collowing provisions: –

First. That in and after this date, (February 4, 1873), said proprietors are entitled to possession of the said premises with the exception of the buildings now standing thereon, and the land covered thereby.

Second. That said buildings are to be removed from said land without expense to said proprietors on or before the 15 day of April next.

Third. That whenever said removal shall have been completed in a manner satisfactory to said proprietors, and complete

new deeds of the same land differently divided.

Chant Lot annexed to the Cemetery.

The President having called attention to the fact that the Chant Lot of land, so called, had not yet been formally annexed to the Cemetery by vote, it was

Voted, – that the lot of land recently purchased by the Proprietors of the Cemetery of M^t Auburn of John Corcoran, and known as the Chant Lot, be and the same is hereby annexed to said Cemetery and made part thereof.

Voted, – that the Secretary be directed to send a copy of the foregoing vote to the assessors of Watertown.

Lot 575 Geo. C. Shattuck Subject of don. for p.c. of ref. to Com. on Lots

On motion of M^r Turner, it was

Voted, – that the subject of the donation of $1000.– made by Dr. George C. Shattuck to the general funds of the Corporation, in consideration whereof the Trustees, by vote adopted Dec. 28, 1844, agreed to keep the lot of said Shattuck in perpetual repair be referred to the Committee on Lots to consider and report.

Mass. Hort. Soc. – Com. on relations of this corpⁿ to, authorized to Employ counsel.

On motion of M^r Perkins, it was

Voted, – that the special Committee appointed Feby. 12, 1873, consisting of the President and Messrs. Choate and Snow, to consider and report what measures, if any, should be taken to re-adjust or terminate the relations of this corporation to the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, be authorized to obtain the opinion of counsel on the subject.
