In reply to your letter of Sept 30th I would say that in May last the key of the tomb was placed in our hands for the purpose of making some repairs on the tomb according to the instructions of Miss H.N. Churchill and Mr F.C. Bacon acting for Mrs Peleg Churchill. After the work was finished the key was sent by Express to the Cemetery office in Boston according to the request made by (Mr Bacon I think) at the Cemetery.
The key was not called for until some considerable time had elapsed, after it was sent in & when the interment was ordered the message was sent out per telephone that the key was here, to which I replied that the key had been sent in to Boston according to instructions. The key was not found, & I was directed (by telephone) to open the tomb which I did by having the lock picked. The door was opened the day before the funeral & was kept shut as fast as possible without locking. After the funeral (two days I think) the key was brought out by Mr Bacon & the lock was at once
