Siqhâta and Bīnîn

To the southwest of Ruwêḥā, on the road to Dier Sambil are two small ruins. The first has been completely demolished and built over in comparatively recent times and contains two Welis near a very ancient tree which grows over a shîkh's tomb. Only one house preserves a part of an original wall and a few original doorways are in place. The houses were small and plain and built of large quadrated blocks.

Bīnîn is the site of a small modern village; on the southern slope of the hill are remains of houses in plain quadrated style and a number of good lintels are covered by a projecting shed.

Of the church, the apse is standing, without its semi dome, and the north chapel and northern wall are preserved. The south chapel is not wholly destroyed so that it is easily possible to secure measurements of the plan. The capitals and bases of which three or four were found are of a good corinthian type.

Dier Sambil

This is one of the important ruins visited by de Vogüé. It is situated on the eastern slope of the higher ridges of the Djebel Rîhā, south west of Ruwêḥā. The ruins comprise a large church, almost completely destroyed and a very interesting group of houses large and small.

The rock cut tombs are of special interest for their numerous inscriptions.

Church. The church stands on the higher part of the town to the west. Like the north church at Ruwêḥā it was surrounded by a stony wall. The plan was of the ordinary type but only the west front is preserved. The lines of the apse are barely traceable. The exterior, judging from the west wall, was quite plain. The three western portals carry very simple lintels of discs but the interior has capitals and bases of considerable richness in flowing construction style mingled with Christian symbols - a little digging showed mosaic pavement in the nave but these are completely destroyed.
