to remove without unnecessary delay any number of trees, or of parts thereof, not exceeding one half of the whole number of trees, for the purpose of abating the detriment and inconvenience now occasioned by said trees."

Amendt of Vote instructing Comee on suit of Granite Railway Co to settle _

Voted that the resolution adopted on the , instructing the Committee on the suit of the Granite Railway Company against this Corporation to effect a settlement with said Company on the best terms possible _ be so far amended as to empower said Committee to submit the matters in controversy to reference.

Com. to inquire & report respecting purchase of land west of Cem.y _

Voted that Messrs Little and Norcross be authorized to inquire and report upon what terms the lot of land westerly of and adjoining the Cemetery now held by the Roman Catholic Bishop can be purchased. _

Appropriation towards grading of Coolidge Ave.

Mr Cheever having made a statement to the Board that the City of Cambridge contemplate the improvement of the grade of Coolidge Avenue ~ it was

Voted that Messrs Cheever and Norcross be a Committee to arrange with the City of Cambridge for the payment of two hundred and fifty dollars ($250.00 by this Corporation _ when said grading shall have been completed to the satisfaction of this Committee.

Trustees .

Purchase agreed upon

A Report was received from Mr J. T. Bradlee in behalf of the Special Committee consisting of Messrs. Livermore and J. T. Bradlee appointed at the last Meeting on the purchase of the land West of the Cemetery, with full powers to purchase the same should they deem it expedient to do so, – stating that they had agreed to purchase the same from the Rt Revd John J. Williams, Roman Catholic Bishop of Boston, for the sum of Sixty-five hundred dollars, ($6500.00), being one thousand dollars per acre, should the title prove satisfactory.

Report accepted Appropriation of $6500 moved

Voted, – that the Report of the Committee be accepted.

Mr J. T. Bradlee then moved that the aforesaid sum of Sixty-five hundred dollars, ($6500) be appropriated for the payment for the real Estate in question.

Laid over to Next Meeting

The President announced that the above motion would lay over for consideration at the next meeting of the Trustees under Article 14 of the By=Laws.

Secy. ordd to Examine Title,

Voted, – that the Secretary be instructed to examine the title of the said real Estate, and report to the Trustees.

Trustees' Report

Trustees' Report

During the past year liberal importations and purchases of flowering shrubs and plants have been made for the embellishment of the Cemetery, most of which are now in good and promising condition.

The Reception House opposite the Gate has been completed and supplied with various accommodations for the use of visitors. the Superintendent's House and appurtenances have been put in thorough repair.

Hazel Dell has been further improved by the completing of Tombs on the Northerly side, and laying out of new lots on the Southerly side of said Dell, conformably to a Plan submitted by the Superintendent and adopted by the Trustees.

A strip of land outside of Coolidge Avenue, measuring seven feet two inches in front, and thirty=one feet in the rear, containing ten thousand four hundred and twenty square feet has been sold to the City of Cambridge, at the rate of twelve and a half cents per foot, for $1302.50

It has been voted to erect a new Greenhouse at an expense not exceeding three thousand dollars, ($3000. –)

A tract of land lying West of the Cemetery, containing about six and a half acres has been purchased of Rt Rev. John J. Williams, Roman Catholic Bishop of Boston, for the sum of six thousand five hundred dollars ($6500.)

The Trustees, at a meeting , elected Col. Charles W. Folsom as Superintendent for the current year.
