Dear Sir

I give you below a list of the men whose services I value the most & whom I should be glad to keep thru the winter. If you will approve, I shall then be able to give a few days notice to all to be discharged. Unless the season is unusually open, I would propose to reduce the number to 25 on Dec. 1st, if our top dressing, the covering of myrtle, and other orders are nearly enough finished to admit.

Joseph Collins Esq Gardener

Dear Sir

On Saturday the Spring pay will commence at the following rates.

Patsk Curtin 2.12 1/2 Friday
John McDonald 1.93 3/4
Wm Collins (teamster) 1.50
John McGinnis 1.85 $1.75
James Conners 1.85 $1.75
The men at the greenhouses will share such Sunday work as is actually necessary without extra pay. P. Curtin, J McDonald, & Wm Collins (teamster) will be paid for all days except Sunday when present , wet or dry. None of the other men will be paid except for such days as are sufficiently dry to work both men & horses, when they are present. I have directed Mr McArthur when it is too stormy for the men to continue working to ring the bell & have the men stop, and that when too stormy to work he will not take them on in the morning or at noon. & I wish to prevent any misunderstanding or confusion yours should stop work whenever his do. Please return the time of any man taken by Mr Barker in case of need on your weekly sheet, with his name.

E.F. Young Esq Engineer

On and after April 1st your pay will be at the rate of $2.30) two dollars and thirty cents per day for each day present except Sunday. On Sunday you will be expected to take your turn with the fireman in letting on the Fountains without extra pay.

I have notified Mr. McArthur that he is to allow in persons for time when about, even if a substitute is about without my written consent for each case.

You may allow P. Curtin, J McDonald their holidays & they can take their time in being present. Also allow W.. Collins as teamster his holidays.

If the men are needed on Fast day at [?] keep them & allow them for it. On the other holidays they will not be needed.

Dear Sir

The following men will be discharged on Saturday Morning May 8th at half past three P.M. working only 3/4 of a day on that day.

John [Motishaw?] Thos Donahoe John Hogan Tom Howey Joseph Ray John McDonald Charles McBride Saml. Cathcart. W.T. Jones Thomas Callahan ( who has never been at work will be taken off the time book.)

These men will be paid off at my office at half past three oclock on Saturday May 8th

Will you bring in on Monday P.M. as early after duties as possible their time.
