388 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Feb 17 1888 Be it remembered that on this 17th day of February 1888 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council chamber pursuant to law. The following officers are present, to wit: Mayor Minor and Councilmen Furth, Green, Lake, Moran, Russell & Reitze & W. R. Forrest Clerk. The following proceedings are had, to wit: Petitions etc Petitions of W H Reeves & others for a sewer in Seneca Street from the Bay to the alley between Third & Fourth Streets, read & referred to Sewer Com. Petition of M. V. Stewart for the return of certain grade taxes herebefore paid into the City Treasury read and referred to the City Attorney. Petition of A. F. Naher & others for permission to grade Sixth Street from Madison to Spring St. at their own expense, read and on motion granted. Petition of Mrs Celia Mitchell for the correction of her assessment, read and granted. Petition of James Kelly for permission to build a fruit stand on Washington Street in front of the standard Theatre read & tabled. Petition of Fred Wilhelm & others for grading Cherry Street from Fourth Street to Thirteenth Street, read and referred to the Street Committee. Petition of Seamens Friend Society for the abatement of a nuisance caused by a Sewer Corner of South Second & Main St, read & referred to Committee on Health & Police.

395 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE. Mar 2 1888 Be it remembered that on this 2nd day of March 1888 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law. The following officers are present, viz: Mayor Minor, Councilmen Furth, Frink, Green, Lake, Moran, Niesz, & Russell & W. R. Forrest Clerk. The following proceedings are had, to wit: Petitions etc Petition of C. N. Cooper & others for opening Dexter Street from Depot Street to Republican Street, read and referred to Committee on Streets. Petition of J J Post and others for opening & planking alley west of Front Street between Union and University Streets, read and referred to Street Committee. Petition of D N Styde & others for opening portions of Roy and Victoria Streets read and referred to Street Committee. Petition of J D McDermott and others for opening portions of Fifth and Brook Streets, read and referred to the Street Com. Petition of Geo Kinnear for permission to grade at his own expense Roy Street from Temperance Street to Light Street and Light Street from Roy Street to Bluff Street; also Banner Street from ]]Roy Street]] to High Street, and that the Council cause the grade of said streets to be established, read and granted and the surveyor directed to establish said grades. 408 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Mar 7 1888 Be it remembered that on this 7th day of March 1888 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council chamber pursuant to adjournment. The following officers are present, to wit: Mayor Minor, Councilmen J. Furth, J M Frink, Joseph Green, T. W. Lake, Robt. Moran, U. R. Niesz and C F Reitze & W R Forrest Clerk. Petitions etc] Rec'd Communications from G. M. Haller, and others calling the attention of the Council to the petition of L. M. Robbins & others filed [Dec 2nd 1889 for the appointment of J. L. McClellan a day captain of Police, read and referred ot the Committee on Health & Police. Petition of Fred Wilhelm & others for grading and building sidewalks on both sides of Cherry Street from Fourth Street to 13th Street, read and referred to the Street Com. Petition of Adam Orth & others for opening Second Street to a width of ninety feet and grading and laying sidewalks on both sides of same from Depot Street to Pine Street in accordance with the profile attached, read & tabled. Communications from Harbor Master giving estimate of cost of placing three buoys in the Harbor, read and referred to the Committee on Harbors & Wharves. Committee Reports Received From the Street Committee recommending that the petition of the Seattle Upholstering and Manufacturing Company for a lease of a portion of a portion of the foot of Spring Street for a period of five (5) years be granted for the period of three (3) years. 411 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE an ordinance is submitted by the Clerk entitled as Special Ordinance appropriating money to pay audited bills which is passed by the following vote: ayes Furth Frink Green Lake Moran Niesz & Reitze Noes none. Mar 7 1888 said hydrants to be delivered as follows: Twenty (20) on or before April 15th 1888 and twenty on or before May 15th 1888. Ordered that the City Surveyor ascertain and give the necessary fall for the Blanchard Street Sewer to connect with the Denny School house. Ordered that the Committee on Fire & Water be authorized to employ some one to put the fire alarm system in order. appropriation 907 Ordered that the Council do now adjourn. Mar 7 1888 Attest W R Forrest Clerk Approved Thomas T. Minor Mayor MAR 16 1888 Be it remembered that on this 16th day of March 1888 the Common Council of the City of Seattle met, persuant to law. The following officers are present, to wit: Mayor Minor and Councilmen Furth. Frink. Green, Moran Niesz & Russell. Clerk W. R. Forrest. Petitions etc. Petition of Geo Kinnear for permission to move a small house on Lot 3 Blk 10 Maynards plat from the street back to the alley and erect on said lot a business block 60 x 60 feet in size one story high. The same to be a wooden building. Read & referred to Com. on Fire and Water. Petition of S. N Sorenson for permission to move building from Lot 7 Block 14 Borens Plat, to Block 5 Sorenson's addition Lake Union, read & referred to Street Com. Petition of Alfred Snyder for extension of Box drain in James east to the alley between 11th & 12th Streets, read and referred to Com. for Sewers.
