A. L. Devens Esq

Dear Sir,

The Trustees have authorized the division of lot 1594 into two, by reconveying to the Corporation in taking two new deeds. The reconveyancec will need to be signed by Mrs Jane C. Devens, yourself & brother, Charles. If you will look for the deed, & bring or send it in, I will prepare the transfer, if you wish. I find the deed was originally delivered to Mr John L. Payson. This may give you some clue in case you do not find it readily.

Will you please also answer this question. We give you two numbers the old one - 1594 - and a new one 3727. This is the best I can do. We will say 1594 to Thos. M. Devens 3727 to heirs of Mary Devens. In [?] [?] to locate correctly the numbers on the plan, & avoid future mistakes, it will be necessary to know which side of the lot belongs to Thos. M. & his mother -- & which to you & brother. This is determined by the will, which gives to Jane C. that part which contains the remains of her late husband Richd C. Devens and to you & your brother the part in which your mother is buried.

As the snow covers the ground, it only remains for you to tell me which is the one & which the other. For this purpose, I send you sketch from our plans. Please indicate, as you stand in Tulip Path & face the lots, which is left, & which right.

I also enclose petition to be signed yourself & brother.

Your immediate attention will enable me to insert the new arrangements in the catalogue now going to press.

Yours Respy

A. J. Coolidge Sec.y
