J.W. Converse Esq
Dear Sir
Allow me to call your attention to the tomb of Jos.B. Whall. The stone needs cleaning & some other repairs, and if done now, would add much to the appearance, besides the fact that it would cost less to make the repairs often enough to keep the tomb in good order.
If you desire, I will have an estimate made & send you of the cost of repairing.
Yrs respectfully James W. Lovering Supt

Boston Jona Mann Esq, Supt & [?] -
Dear Sirs,
By^reading the following action of the Board of Trustees of Mount Auburn, at the monthly meeting held this day, you will receive notice from me.
A communication was read from Dr J.V.C Smith, to the affect that he had been informed by Mr E.L. Lunt, a painter, that Mr Mann, the Superintendent, had demanded of him a percentage on his labor there, for the privilege allowed him of working on the premises. -
Upon motion by Mr Curtis, it was voted that when this meeting adjourn, it be next Monday, at 10 oclock A.M. to hear such testimony as the said E.L. Lunt may give in regard to the allegation said to be made by him, and for the transaction of any other business that may come before the Board; and that the Secretary be directed to require the attendance of Mr Lunt on the day, and also to notify Mr Mann that he will be expected to attend that meeting, and make his answer to the above named charge, and to the following charges - to wit; of short credits in the following accounts viz. of Nathaniel Thayer, Tisdale Drake, R.W.T. Cooper, Benj. T. Reed, J.B. Whall's Estate, and T.B. Wales; and of receiving compensation for his services from John Borland.
Respectfully yours, A.J. Coolidge Secretary

33 School St Boston,
J.W. Converse Esq Exor of J.B. Whall,
Dear Sir, Our Corporation is having a new survey of the Cemetery on an enlarged scale, and it is impossible to show those lots which have no visible bounds. The Whall lot, although containing a very expensive structure, has no stone or other posts to mark the corners; and as the backs are quite high & slope in different directions the measurement at any time is not quite so easy.
Every proprietor's deed requires him to put down permanent bounds of stone or iron.
Will you authorize four posts to be put down at the corners? - this expense will not exceed $10. -
Will you also have our Surveyor Mr Wadsworth, make a plan to enter in our portfolio, for the sake of more minute & accurate description than can be shown on our ordinary plan?
Yours truly
A.J. Coolidge Sec.y Mt Auburn Cemy

Dear Sir,
I shall have again to remind you of the fact I mentioned to you a few days since, that the body of your child had remained in our Receiving Tomb far beyond the time allowed - and of your promise to go to Mt Auburn between the (when I saw you) and the to select a lot and take steps for the removal.
I trust you will set it down for the first fair day.
Yours resp.y
A.J. Coolidge Secretary
