Report adopted and the Street Commissioner fully exonerated Miscellaneous The following proposals for building the Beach Road Bridge are received and opened to wit: A W Burrell $21,800.00 Terrence O'Brien $26,660.00 J S Armstrong $25,500.00 W E Wilson $26,949.00 Seattle Construction Co $26,847.00 N Smart $23,999.00 On motion the consideration of said bids is laid over until tomorrow evening On motion the City Attorney is instructed to draw and submit an ordinance in relation to animals at large Moved that the Street Commissioner be instructed to build a box drain through the alley in Block 10 from Main St to Washington St Lost Ordered that the city Attorney be instructed to at once commence proceedings to compel all parties within 150 feet of Washington Street sewer to connect with said sewer. 37 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Jun 26 1886 Be it remembered that on this the 26th day of June 1886 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment: Present, Mayor Yesler and Councilmen J Furth,R H Calligan, Geo Hall, W A Harrington, Chas McDonald and G W Young & J J Post the minutes of the last meeting were read and approved and the following preceedings are had to wit: On motion the the action of petition of Mrs John Osborn for a retail Malt license is reconsidered and the same referred to the Com on License and Revenue. On motion of Councilman J Furth the contract for building the Beach Road Bridge is awarded to A W Burrell for $21,800.00 and the city Attorney ordered to draw and submit an ordinance authorizing the Mayor and Clerk to execute a contract with A W Burrell for building the Beach Road Bridge and it is further ordered that a bond in the sum of $5000.00 be required of the said A W Burrell for the faithful fulfillment of his contract. On motion it is ordered that R H Thomson be and he is hereby appointed engineer and superintendnet of construction of the Beach Road Bridge at a salary of $4.00 per day and an allowance of $50.00 for the use of instruments; and the City Atty directed to submit an ordinance appointing said R H Thomson such engineer superintendent. 43 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Jul 9 1886 which after consideration is passed by the following vote, to wit: In favor of the samae R H Calligan, J Furth, G W Hall, W A Harrington, T W Lake, Chas McDonald, J J Post & G W Young; against none. An Ordinance is submitted entitled "A special ordinance appropriating monry to pay audited bills" which is passed by the following vote, to wit: In favor of said ordinance Calligan, Furth, Hall, Harrington, Lake, McDonald, Post & G W Young; against none. Ordered that the council do now adjourn H L Yesler, mayor attest W R Forrest clerk July 14 1886 Be it remembered that on this 14th day of July A D 1886 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to a notice of the mayor of a special meeting at this time served personally upon each member of the Council, there are present the following officers His Honor the Mayor H L Yesler and councilmen R H Calligan, J Furth, W A Harrington, T W Lake, Chas McDonald & G W Young; when the following proceedings are had to wit: The mayor returns to the council an ordinance entitiled "An ordinance to provide for the construction of a plank road in Grant Street" and authorizing the Mayor and Clerk to execute a contract with A W Burrell therefor" with a message stating his objections and reasons for not approving the same. On motion of Councilman [Furth]] said ordinance is reconsidered and being placed on its final passage is rejected by the following vote: Ayes, none. Noes R H Calligan, J Furth, W A Harrington, T W Lake, Chas McDonald and G W Young.

44 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Jul 14 1886 An Ordinance is submitted by the City Attorney entitled "An ordinance to provide for the construction of a plank road in and along Eighth Street in the City of Seattle, commencing fifty feet south of the north line of Block 8 of Terry's Fifth Addition to the City of Seattle and extending to a point near Hinds Street in South Seattle; and authorizing the mayor and clerk to execute a contract with A W Burrell for the construction of said plank road; which after due deliberation is passed by the following vote, viz: In favor of said ordinance R H Calligan, J Furth, W A Harrington, T W Lake, Chas McDonald andG W Young; against none. Committee Reports Received From Street Com on petition of Geo Newell recommending that the alley in Block 7 J J Moss' addition be vacated. Adopted From Same Committee recommending that petition of G M Hall et al for opening Broadway from James St to Mill St be granted. Adopted From Same Committee recommending that the petition of William Hammond et al for the opening of Temperance St from its intersection with Depot Street to its intersection with Harrison St be granted. Adopted From Com on Fire and Water stating that they have ordered the construction of a file alarm Telephone system. adopted Ordered that the council do now adjourn.
