The Bible that Sauer I gave America ws basically the
Lutheran Bible, but Saur was not a Lutheran. It was
printed because a deeply religious man wished to meet
the need for a Bible among his fellows, i.e. not a commercial
but a religious undertaking - none of the early American
Bibles were money makers (1663, 1743, 1782).
Petre America's 1st Bibles Z7771 A5 R8 HEHL - 1744 Sauer I built his own paper mill - he did not
use American made paper for his 1743 Bible - rather paper
of foreign manufacture - D. Hunter, however, believed that
the paper used in both ed. ('43 + '63) was made in this country
(cannot be verified by documents though.)
