October 12th
Thursday. Sir John & Lady Young visited us. her Ladyship told Sir John what a
wonderfull change had been affected. "that it used to look like the ruins of an old town." When told thc
expences were great, that £20 .. .. had been spent in making the gardens alone, she gave £2 .. .. towards
it. together with an order to send for more fruit trees &c
and kindly invited the Matron to see her garden.
Sir John looked over the three last pages of visiting book, enquiring about the visitors, and remarked, you
have a good suply of Ministers and missionaries". replied that
it was now or never with our girls as they did not attend to these things when out

Friday 15th.
Charlotte Perry aged 13 years, acted on the stage of the Victoria Theater for 3 months,
and "received 12/- per week. besides Mother and sisters could all see the play for nothing"? [underscored]

Saturday 14th. The new Messenger began his
work this morng.
Mrs Windyer called about her washing. She was invited to go through the Refuge &
garden, after which, she gave her name
as a subscriber of £1.1.0 per an.
The gardener has finished. - watering and
weeding is a nice change for the seamstresses
