Monday. Matron went out 2 oclk, returned 1/2 past 5 oclk. as Mr & Mrs Roberts were crossing to the ding [dining] room for prayers M. Mitchell met them with her hymn book opened, and asked if they would sing "Rock of ages, cleft for me!
Let me hide myself in thee"!

Teusday. [tuesday]
Aug 1st Sub com [committee] met. Jane Harris was allowed to leave the Refuge.
three girls received
Lady Young called and expressed a wish that a garden [underscored] should be made all round the drying ground [all underscored], her ladyship was much pleased to see the side next the school room looking so nice, but did not like to see that heap of bricks!! [underscored] promised 2 pounds towards making the garden and to give as many plants &c as we need, and if it was nicely done she would bring "Sir John" to visit us. Received a note from Mr Armstrong [inserted] asking admission for Olivia Davidson she is ill and got a cough, for which we gave her linseed tea and allowed her to lay down.
Wedensday [Wednesday]
2nd The messenger brought a large basket full of plants on a w. barrow from Lady Young's by whom he was told to go for more [underscored] next week. The cultivation of flowers will be a nice recreation for the inmates. some of whom take great pleasure in it.
