Teusday [Tuesday]. Ladies Sub Comn. [Committee]. Present Mrs Goodlet Hon Sec'y [Secretary] Mrs Hay & Mrs Macintyre.
There are 29 inmates - theres [there's] not enough
washing to keep them fully employed. if an
advertisement was put in the daily paper, stating
that a messenger w? [would] fetch and return the linen
perhaps we might get more.

Wedensday [Wednesday] 7th. Margt [Margaret] OBrian came this morn [morning] poorly clad and dirty, wanted to borrow 2/6. She was told that no money could be lent without the
ladies [ladies'] consent. She was sobd [sobbing?]

Thursday 8th. Jane Mills asked admission, all rags and filth
she was also worse for drink, - she was told that the
Matron would not dare take her in, without her
first getting Mrs Goodlet's consent. she said
she would go to her. a wet day, and the town
clothes not ready, as it is impossible to
get them dry.

Friday 9th. A very wet day, and the work far from
being finished. a drying room is much
needed & would be a saving of time and
expence [expense] thro. [through] drying such a quantity of
clothes by the fire. we have to have very large
fires thus consuming extra coal & wood.
