Didn't go to school as did not
feel well. Lovely day. Helped Mummy in the
morning and cleaned my bedroom. Sat out
on lawn in afternoon. Did some homework
in evening. We all went to bed very early.

6 Fri
Did not go to school. Quite
cold day. Had a letter from Betty. She is
getting better. Helped Mummy in morning.
&went to Sutton in afternoon. Wrote to
Betty in evening & we all went to RAF cinema
and saw Forever & a Day. Very good

7 Sat - s.r. 6.9, s.s. 5.25
Cold windy day.
Helped Mummy all the morning &
picked blackberries in our field. Went
to Sutton in afternoon and did errands
then had a bath and did a little
homework in evening. Ted came in

This is a good time of the year to break up grassland
for vegetable growing. Bastard trench and bury the
turf ; no manure should be necessary. Lift the main
crop of Carrots and Beetroot and store in a suitable
place ; late sowings of these crops can remain in the
ground until later in the season. Grease-band fruit
trees.
