Hot day. Picked plums all
the morning. Bill came here on his
day off. Served plums in the afternoon
and wrote to Betty Ambrose. Picked plums
again in evening with Bill. Went to bed
late.

11 Fri - Half-Quarter Day
Last Quarter, 2.52 a.m.
Battle of Britain, 1940
Very hot day.
Helped Mummy in the morning and
picked some plums. Served plums in afternoon.
Picked plums again in evening. Taffy
Leslie White & Betty came & helped. Bill
popped in for a short while.

12 Sat - Grouse Shooting begins

Lovely day. Went
to Sutton in morning and served
plums. Picked plums in afternoon.
Sgt Denys Westell and engineer came to tea
and supper. Had a bath in evening.

Sow a suitable variety of quick-maturing Onions for
salads, also Spinach to stand the winter, and a further
sowing of Endive.

As soon as Black Currants and Raspberries have been
gathered, fruit-bearing shoots should be cut away, leaving
room for young shoots to develop. Protect various
fruits from birds and wasps.

Cold Districts. - Sow Onions to stand the winter and
Turnips for producing tops in early spring.
