Kingston July 17th 1885

A Special Meeting of the Council of the Corporation of
the City of Kingston was held this day. Present

His Worship The Mayor
Aldermen
Adams, Carson, Clements, Dunn, Harty,
Little, McDermott, McKelvey, O'Brien,
Redden, Robinson, W Wilson

The Mayor stated the Meeting was called to consider
question of Market Tolls

The Chairman from the Committee on Markets
brought up a Report (Number 359 Book E) which
was read and adopted

Ald Little introduced a By Law to amend section 391
of the By Law passed on the 26th day of November 1883 entitled
a By Law to consolidate and amend the By Laws of the Corporation
of the City of Kingston and to repeal certain By Laws which
was read a first time

The 30th Rule was suspended and the Council went
into Committee of the whole on the second reading

The Council resumed

The Committee rose and the Chairman reported
the second reading of the By Law clause by clause.
The Report was received.

The By Law was read a third time and passed

On motion of Ald Harty seconded by Ald McKelvey
Ordered, That the Market Committee be authorized
to advertise for Tenders for Market Tolls, and that each
tender be accompanied by a certified Bank cheque
payable to the order of the Mayor to the amount of five
per cent of the tender. The cheque to be returned if the
Tender is not accepted and to be forfeited if the Tenderer
refuses or neglects to complete the usual contract in all
other respects the tenders to be in the usual form

And it is further ordered that the Mayor together
with the Market Committee be authorised to accept
such tender or tenders as they may deem advisable.

Ald Adams brought up the petition of Eliza
Grimason respecting drain. Referred to Committee on Streets

On motion of Ald Carson seconded by Ald Robinson
Ordered, That it be an instruction to the Commitee on Streets
to furnish plans and estimates of the cost to extend Durham and
Park street to intersect with Victoria street and to report to this
Council at its next meeting.

On motion the Council adjourned.
