Kingston January 21st 1884

A Meeting of the Members elect of the Council of the
Corporation of the City of Kingston was held this day. Present

James McCammon Esquire M.D. Mayor elect

Aldermen

Cataraqui Ward
Joseph Quigley and Robert J. Eilbreck

Frontenac Ward
William Dunn, William Robinson Jr & James Duncan Thompson

Ontario Ward
Cornelius Bermingham, William Wilson & Leonard Clements

Rideau Ward
William Adams, Edward Law, John Carson

Saint Lawrence Ward
James Redden, John L. Whiting & George L. Hobart

Sydenham Ward
Edward H Smythe, Thomas H. McGuire, Felix Shaw

Victoria Ward
James Wilson, John McKelvey, James Downing

John Duff Esquire Police Magistrate was present
and administered the Declarations of Qualification and of Office
to the Mayor elect.

The Mayor elect took the Chair and administered
the declarations of Qualification and office to the newly elected
Aldermen except Ald Allen who was absent owing to illness.

The Mayor verbally addressed the Council.

The Clerk read two applications from Adam McArthur
and G.W. Leslie for the office of Auditor.

The Mayor nominated Joseph C. Clark as his auditor.

On motion of Ald McKelvey seconded by Ald Thompson
Ordered, That the nomination of Mr. J.C. Clark as
auditor by the mayor be confirmed.

Ald Redden moves seconded by Ald Whiting
That Adam McArthur be the Auditor appointed
by this Council for the year 1884.

In Amendment 1st
Ald Smythe moved seconded by Ald Robinson
That Mr George W. Leslie be appointed auditor.

In Amendment 2nd
Ald J. Wilson moves seconded by Ald Shaw
That the election of the Council's Auditor be taken by
ballot - which being put was lost - the first amendment being
also put was lost and the original motion was carried.

Ald McKelvey introduced a By Law to appoint
Auditors for the Corporation of the City of Kingston for the Audit
for the year 1884 which was read a first time.

The 30th Rule was suspended as to the readings
of this By Law
