Kingston October 29th 1883

A Meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the city of
Kingston was held this day. Present

His Worship the Mayor
Aldermen
Clements, Crothers, Creeggan, Downing, Dunn,
McIntyre, Quigley, Redden, Shaw, Smythe,
Whiting, J Wilson.

The Clerk read the minutes of the two last meetings.

The Council went into Committee of the whole on the second
reading of the Consolidation of the By Laws.

Ald Dunn in the chair
The Council resumed.

The Committee rose, and the Chairman [read] the second reading
clause by clause. The Report was received.

Ald McGuire from the Committee on Finance and
acounts brought up the Reports (Nos. 213 & 214 Book E)
which were received and adopted.

Ald Shaw from the Committee on Streets and
Improvements brought up a Report (Number 215
Book E) which was read.

Ald Shaw moves seconded by Ald Redden
That the report of the Committee on Streets be received
and adopted.

In amendment
Ald Whiting moves seconded by Ald RJ Carson
That the the report be amended by inserting the words
"and Saint Lawrence Ward" to the other Wards named in the
report which being put was carried and the original
motion was carried as amended.

Ald Clements brought up the Report of the Directors
of the House of Industry praying for a Grant of $400.00
for the charity. Referred to the Finance Committee.

Ald Smythe brought up the petition of William
Newman praying payment of balance of account due
him on bath House. Referred to the Finance Committee.

Ald Quigley brought up the petition of James
McGowan respecting taxes. Referred to the Court of Revision.

Ald Dunn brought up the petition of William
K Bentley respecting taxes. Referred to the Court of Revision.

Ald Crothers brought up the petition of A Stuart
and 17 others for a Coal Oil Lamp on Montreal Street.
Referred to the Committee on Fire Water and Gas.

Ald Crothers brought up the petition of Alexander
Martin against the erection of a building on a certain
street. Referred to the Committee on Streets &c.

Ald McGuire brought up the petitions of charles
McMillan, James Robb and WJ Webster praying a remission of
portions
