A Meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the
City of Kingston was held this day Present
His Worship the Mayor
Aldermen
Allen, John Carson, R.J. Carson, Clements
Creeggan, Downing, Dunn, Gildersleeve
Irving, Law, Redden, Shaw, Smythe
Whiting, J. Wilson
The Clerk read the minutes of the last meeting
Ald: Allen moves seconded by Ald: Clements
That the Council go into Committee of the
whole on the second reading of the By Law to amend
the By Law entitled A By Law to grant Licenses for
the sale of fresh meat &c
In amendment
Ald: R. J. Carson moves seconded by Ald: Gildersleeve
That the 31st Rule be suspended and that
the Council take up the Budget. which being
put was lost and the original motion was carried
Yeas 13 Nays 4.
The Council went into Committee of the whole
accordingly
Ald: Redden in the Chair
The Council resumed
The Committee rose reported progress and asked
leave to sit again. The Report was recieved
Ald: Gildersleeve from the Committee on
Finance and Accounts brought up a Report
(The Budget) (Number 198 Book E.) which was
read
Ald: Redden Irving moves seconded by Ald: Redden
That the Report of the Finance Committee be
amended by substituting the sum of $14.544.00 for
schools appropriation instead of the sum named
in the Budget
In amendment
Ald: Gildersleeve moves seconded by Ald: Smythe
That the following be added after the words
estimated surplus of $128.37 " And that in view of the
necessity of making the expenditure of the City meet
the Revenue that the School Board be respectfully requested
to reconsider their estimates—which being put was
carried and the original motion was lost
On motion of Ald: Gildersleeve seconded by Ald: Redden
Ordered, That the remuneration to the collector be
1¼ per cent on the amount collected and the item in
the Budget as his salary be accordingly estimated
at
