A Communication from the Canadian Locomotive
and Engine Company limited was read requesting that
the exemption from taxation they at present enjoy should
be extended for a further period of ten years to date from
the first day of January 1884 in contemplation of the
enlargement of their works

Ald Gildersleeve introduced a By Law to exempt
from the payment of Municipal Taxes and School rates
the manufacturing establishment of the Canadian
Locomotive and Engine Company for ten years from the
first day of January in the year 1884 and to repeal the
By Law hereinafter named - which was read a first time

Ald Quigley brought up the petition of Messrs Chown
and Cunningham and a large number of others praying
for the opening of Bagot street.

On motion of Ald RJ Carson seconded by Ald Quigley
Ordered, That the petition of Messrs Chown and
Cunningham and others in reference to the opening up of
Bagot street be referred to the Committee on Streeets &c to
report on the matter without delay.

Ald Gordon & Smythe here left.

On motion of Ald Irving seconded by Ald McIntyre
Ordered, That the sum of fifty dollars be granted
to the Committee on City Property for general purposes

Ald Whiting brought up the petition of JW
Fralick praying that the Portico in course of erection
in front of the Burnett House be allowed to stand

On motion of Ald Whiting seconded by Ald McIntyre
Ordered, That the City Commissioner be instructed
to suspend the prosecution of Mr JW Fralick in regard to
the proposed erection of the Portico or awning before
the Hotel until further instructed by this Council.

Ald J Carson brought up the petition of John Farley
praying for a drain on Johnson street to be opened &c. Referred
to the Committee on Streets.

Ald Clements brought up the petition of William
Davis praying he be exonerated from further payment
of Billiard Licnese as per petition.

On motion of Ald Clements seconded by Ald Crothers
Ordered, That the petition of W Davis be granted

Ald Crothers brought up the petition of Samuel
Anglin complaining of the vacant lot corner of
Wellington and Barrack streets.

On motion of Ald Crothers seconded by Ald Allen
Ordered, That the vacant lot on the corner of
Wellington and Barrack streets being the McCollum which has
remained unfenced for some years and is still unfenced, is
hereby declared to be a public nuisance and dangerous
to the public passing by it on foot.
