On motion of Ald Smythe seconded by Ald Gildersleeve
Ordered, That the Mayor be requested to instruct
the City Commissioner to at once take steps to abate the
alleged existing nuisance Complained of in the petition
of I. A Breck and others

Ald: Allen here entered

Ald: R.J. Carson brought up the petition of Robert
Baird Jr offering $6 per night for the use of the
City Hall for the weekly meetings of their club
and praying it may be allowed for that purpose

On motion of Ald: R.J. Carson seconded by Ald: Smythe
Ordered, That the prayer of the petition of Robert
Baird Jr be granted and that the Hall be under the
Control of the City Property Committee

Ald: R.J. Carson brought up the petition of Messrs
James Richardson & Sons praying that their property at
the foot of Princess street St Laurence Ward be assessed
at the assessed value of the property previous to the
improvements being made to it

Ald: R.J. Carson moves seconded by Ald: Redden
That the petition of James Richardson & Son be placed
in the same position as the Montreal Forwarding Company and
in accordance with a resolution passed at the last meeting of this
Council exempting the same

In Amendment

Ald: McIntyre moves seconded by Ald: Irving
That the petition of James Richardson & Sons be
referred to the Committee on Finance and Accounts to report
which being put was lost Yeas 10 Nays 10 and the original
motion being put was lost Yeas 9 Nays 11

On motion of Ald: R.J. Carson seconded by Ald: Allen
Ordered, That the petition of James Richardson & Son
be referred to the Finance Committee to report on all exemptions
Yeas 19 Nays None

Ald: McGuire introduced a By Law to amend
section three of the By Law entitled "A By Law to license
and regulate "Junk" stores and shops which was read
a first time

The 30th Rule was suspended and the Council went into
Committee of the whole on the second reading

Ald: R.J. Carson in the chair

The Council resumed

The Committee rose and the Chairman reported the second
reading
