A Special meeting of the Council of the Corporation
of the City of Kingston was held this day Present

His Worship the Mayor

Aldermen
Allen, R.J. Carson, Clements, Crothers
Creeggan, Downing, Dunn, Gildersleeve
Irving, McGuire, McIntyre, Quigley
Redden, Shaw, Smythe, Whiting, W. Wilson

The Mayor stated he Called the Meeting for the
purpose of considering the question of retaining the
Montreal Transportation Company's business within the
City on requisition signed by a majority of the
members of the Council

The Clerk read a Communication from George J
Kingham Esquire Secretary of the Montreal Transportation
Company on the subject of the Company Continuing its
business in this City. and stating if the Corporation
remit the taxation charged the Company and grant them
the Continuance of the price of ground below the bridge
where their repairs are carried on, free of rent for a period
of years, they will strive in future as they have done in the
past to increase the volume of transhipment, and they hope
the property of Kingston

Ald: McIntyre moves seconded by Ald: Gildersleeve
That exemption from taxation for a period of ten
years be granted on the real and personal property of the
Montreal Transportation Company and the Kingston and
Montreal Forwarding Company on Condition that said
Companies transact all their business in the City during
said period and that the City Solicitor prepare a By-Law
to Carry out this resolution

In Amendment

Ald: R.J. Carson moves seconded by Ald: Allen
That the Montreal Transportation Company be
exempt all taxation on their floating property that they
may have or not within the limits of the City of Kingston
for the period of ten years and that the City Solicitor prepare
a By Law accordingly and that the real estate remain as
it now is

The original motion being put was carried and
the amendment was lost

On motion of Ald: McIntyre seconded by Ald: Smythe
Ordered, That the Committee on City Property confer
with the Kingston and Pembroke Railway Company to ascertain
on what terms the property referred to in the Communication
of the Montreal Transportation Company, can be secured for
the uses of the latter Company, assuming that the K & P Railway
Company
