A Meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the
City of Kingston was held this day Present

His Worship the Mayor

Aldermen
Allen, John Carson, R.J. Carson, Clements
Creeggan, Downing, Dupuis, Gordon, Irving
Law, Little, McCammon, McIntyre, Redden
Smythe, Wilson

The Clerk read the minutes of the two last meetings

The Council went into Committee of the whole on
the second reading of the Consolidated By Laws

Ald: Creeggan in the Chair

The Council resumed

The Committee rose reported progress and asked leave
to sit again. The Report was received

Ald: McCammon from the Committee on Finance
and Accounts brought up a Report ( Number 154 Book
E.) which was read and adopted

The Chairman from the Committee on Fire, Water
and Gas brought up a Report ( Number 155 Book E.)
which was read and adopted

The Chairman from the Select Committee In Re
Water Works brought up a Report (Number 156 Book E.)
which was read and adopted

A Communication from Mr. S.S. Phippen Secretary
Board of Public School Trustees was read enclosing Report
of Board of Trustees &c and asking the Council to sanction
the issue of $8000.00 in Debentures for School purposes. Referred
to the Finance Committee

A Communication from Matthew Robins Esquire was
read in reference to an article appearing in the "Globe"
Newspaper also the reply of the Mayor to his former
Communication on the subject of the erection of Rolling Mills &c

A Communication from Thomas Hanley was read
offering $51 for Fish House. Referred to Committee on
City Property

A Communication from James Connoly was read
asking assistance for the support of an infant left with his
wife. Referred to the Finance Committee

Ald: Downing brought up the petition of Herman
Berry praying for a remission of three months of his Tavern
License owing to the Fire which destroyed his property

On motion of Ald: Downing seconded by Ald: Law
Ordered, that the petition of Herman Berry be
referred to the License Committee

Ald: McCammon brought up the petition of A.
McMahon and ten others praying for the erection of a
Lamp
