Kingston September 11th 1882

A Special Meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the City
of Kingston was held this day. Present

His Worship the Mayor

Aldermen,
John Carson, R.J. Carson, Clements, Craig, Creeggan
Downing, J.P. Gildersleeve, Law, Little, McCammon
McGuire, McIntyre, Quigley, Redden, Smythe
Wilson

The Mayor stated the meeting was called to take up
general business

On motion of Ald: McIntyre seconded by Ald: R.J. Carson
Ordered, that the 31st Rule of Council be suspended for
the present

Alderman McIntyre from the Committee on Finance
and Accounts brought up Reports (Numbers 147, 148
and 149 Book E.) which were read and adopted

The Chairman from the Select Committee on Water
supply brought up a Report (Number 150 Book E,) which
was read

On motion of Ald: McIntyre seconded by Ald: McCammon
Ordered, that the report of the Committee on
Water Works be received and adopted the amount to
be appropriated for the Engineers not to exceed $100 and
the Engineer to give his professional opinion as to the
probable cost of the new Water Works and generally to
give such information as may be desired by the
Committee

On motion of Ald: McGuire seconded by Ald: Redden
Ordered, that the Taxes of the premises occupied
by the Mechanics Instutute be granted remitted

The Chairman from the Committee on Fire, Water
and Gas brought up a Report (Number 151 Book E.)
which was read and adopted

On motion of Ald: Creeggan seconded by Ald: Quigley
Ordered, that this Council obtain from the Grand
Trunk authorities the condition or conditions upon which
a Union pipe with the Grand Trunk tanks as the Depot can
be put in to enable the Steam Fire Engines to be used in
case of Fire

The Annual reports of the City of Newark to the
City of Kingston was laid on the table by the Mayor

On motion of Ald: McIntyre seconded by Ald: Smythe
Ordered, that twelve special Constables be appointed
for and during the Provincial Fair to be selected by the
Mayor and Chairman Chief of Police and that foreign
detectives be employed their expenses to be paid under the direction
of the Mayor and Chief of Police
