Kingston, October 3rd 1881
A Meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the City of Kingston
was held this day. Present:
His Worship the Mayor
Aldermen
Allen, Anglin, John Carson, Clements, Gage, Gaskin,
JP Guildersleeve, Gordon, Irving, Law, McCammon, McGuire,
McMahon, Smythe, J Wilson
The Clerk read the minutes of the last meeting
A Communication from Thomas Moore was read asking for
compensation for loss of Market tolls on grain
On motion of Ald Gaskin seconded by Ald Allen
Ordered, That the Communication of Thomas Moore in
reference to tolls be referred to the Committee on the Market to
report.
A Communication from Margaret Gascoine was read in
reference to damages for supposed injuries sustained on account of the
bad state of the side walk on the North side of Queen Street
east of Barrie Street
On motion of Ald Gaskin seconded by Ald Allen
Ordered, That the Communication of Margaret Gascoine in
reference to damages for supposed injuries sustained be referred to
the Committee on Streets to report.
Communications from RW Shannon and others respecting taxes
were read
On motion of Ald Smthe seconded by Ald J Wilson
Ordered, That the petitions of RW Shannon and others be
referred to the Court of Revision
Ald CJ Guildersleeve here entered
Ald Allen brought up the petition of Edward Law, asking that his
taxes be fixed at the same rate for the next ten years that they
were in the year 1877
Ald Allen moves seconded by Ald Anglin
That the petition of Edward Law be granted for the term of five
years.
In amendment
Ald Irving moves seconded by Ald McCammon
That the petition of Edward Law be referred to the Committee
on Finance to report
Which being put was carried
Yeas: Aldermen Clements, Gage, CF Guildersleeve, JP Guildersleeve, Irving,
McGuire, McMahon, Smythe (9)
Nays: Aldermen Allen, Anglin, John Carson, Gaskin, Gordon,
J Wilson (6)
And the original motion was lost
Ald J Carson brought up the pettion of Charlotte Mollard
respecting taxes
Ald Gage brought up the petition of B Thorn respecting taxes
