Scavenger be referred to the Committee on the Market to report

An Application from William Y. Gordon for the office
of Assessor was read

The Applications of Hugh Cummings, E. Moore, George Sears
Thomas Miller, J.J. Whitehead and F. J. George for the office of
Assessor were also read

On motion of Ald: C.F. Gildersleeve seconded by Ald: Gaskin
Ordered, that W.Y. Gordon be appointed City
Assessor

A Communication from Lewis Middleton Collector of
Taxes was read asking for the appointment of role Collector

On motion of Ald: Gaskin seconded by Ald G.F. Gildersleeve
Ordered, that the Communication of Lewis Middleton
be laid over until a By Law is prepared and submitted to this
Council for the appointment of Collector or Collectors

A Communication from William Hulton was read
asking the Council to grant him the Contract for making
Plank Walks in three of the City Wards

Ald: Gaskin moves seconded by Ald: McMahon
that William Hulton's offer be accepted for
the following Wards, Cataraqui, Victoria, Ontario and
Saint Laurence. which being put was lost

Ald: C.F. Gildersleeve from the Committee on
Finance and Accounts brought up a Report (Number
77 Book E.) which was read and adopted

The Chairman from the Committee on Streets &c
brought up a Report (Number 78 Book E.) which was
read

Ald: Robinson moves seconded by Ald: Law
That the report of the Committee on Streets &c be
received and adopted except that part alluding to Plank
Walks which shall be referred back to the Committee to
receive new Tenders

Ald: Gaskin moves seconded by Ald: McMahon
That William Hulton's offer be accepted for the
following Wards, Cataraqui, Victoria, Ontario and Saint-
Laurence. which being put waslost Yeas 6 Nays 15
and the original motion being put was carried
