A Meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the City of
Kingston was held this day Present
His Worship the Mayor
Aldermen
Allen, Anglin, R.J. Carson, Clements, Gage
J.P Gildersleeve, Gordon, Law, Maloney, Mc Cammon
McGuire, McMahon, Robinson, Smythe, J. Wilson
The Clerk read the minutes of the two last meetings
A Communication from Felix Shaw Esquire, Secretary
pro: tem: Provisional Directors of the Kingston Cotton
Manufacturing Company held Friday was read accepting
offer of site Bonus. There was no action taken therein
A Communication from Messrs Smyth and Dickson was read
In Re, Stevenson vs Kingston. there was no action taken therein
Aldn J. Carson and Newlands here entered
A Communication from F.H.S. Oliver President Kingston
Street Railway was read asking for permission to lay a track
on Gore street
Ald: Smythe brought up the petition of Mrs Macaulay
and 19 others requesting the Council not to allow the Street Railway
to lay a track on Gore street
On motion of Ald: Smythe seconded by Ald: Allen
Ordered, that the Communication of the Street
Railway Company be not entertained
A Communication from Charles F. Ireland
was read stating he will not be a candidate for the office
of assessor for the Coming Year
Ald: R.J. Carson moves seconded by Ald J. Wilson
That the Communication of Mr Charles F
Ireland be referred to the Committee on Finance to
report at the next meeting
In Amendment
Ald: Robinson moves seconded by Ald: Clements
That Mr Irelands resignation be accepted
and that this Council request applications to be made
for the office of assessor or assessors which being
put was carried and the original motion was lost
Aldermen W. Wilson and Irving here entered
Communications from George E Lumsden Assisstant
Secretary, Toronto were was read enclosing order of Council
annulling arrangement between the City of Kingston and
County of Frontenac in Re Maintenance of Prisoners &c.
There was no action taken therein
Communications from J.W. Langmuir Esquire
Inspector of Prisons &c were read in Re Fines, Central
Prison. There was no action taken therein
