A Meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the City of
Kingston was held this day. Present

His Worship the Mayor

Aldermen
Allen, Anglin, Carson J., Carson R.J., Clements, Gage
Gaskin, C.F. Gildersleeve, J.P. Gildersleeve, Gordon
Irving, Law, Maloney, McCammon, McGuire, McMahon
Robinson, J. Wilson

The Clerk read the minutes of last meeting

Communications from J.H. Metcalfe Esquire MPP and
from the Provincial Secretarys Office were read acknowledging
petitions respecting amendments to Municipal and Assessment
Laws, And to the Kingston and Pembroke Railway and also to Confirm
Certain Assessments. A communication from the City Solicitor
was read in Re Assessment

A Communication from F. Etherington Esquire County
Clerk Co: of Frontenac was read stating the offer of the Council
of $2500 for maintenance of City Prisoners &c was not accepted

On motion of Ald: Allen seconded by Ald: McGuire
Ordered, that the matter of a City House of Correction
or jail be referred to the Committee on City Property to Consider
the dimensions and requirements of such a House and to ask
for Plans for the same

On motion of Ald: Irving seconded by Ald: McMahon
Ordered that the Cost of maintenance and all other
matters in connection with the Cost of City Prisoners, in the
County Jail be referred to the Committee on Finance to report
to this Council, at the earliest possible date

A Communication from James Agnew Esquire City Solicitor
In re. Street Cars

On motion of Ald: R.J. Carson seconded by Ald Robinson
Ordered, that the Communication of James Agnew
City Solicitor be referred to the Committee on Streets to report

A Communication from Edwin Horsey Chief Fire Department
was read asking for an exemption from taxation, for
the members of the Department assessed at $1000 and under &c

On motion of Ald: Irving seconded by Ald: McMahon
Ordered, that the Communication of Chief Horsey be
referred to the Committee On Fire, Water and Gas to report.

A Communication from Messrs D & J [Burk?] was read
asking the Council to submit the matter of their claim in re Montreal
street to arbitration. there was no action taken thereon

Communications from J.L. Snook, J Devena and others
respecting Taxes were read and submitted

On motion of Ald R.J. Carson seconded by Ald: Robinson
Ordered, that the petitions of J. L. Snook and others respecting
Taxes be referred to the Court of Revision
