Kingston January 11th 1881
A special meeting of the Council of the Corporation of
the City of Kingston in lieu of the regular meeting night of
10th instant was held this day. Present
His Worship the Mayor
Aldermen
Allen, Anglin, Clements, Dupuis, Fee, Gaskin,
JP Gildersleeve, Harty, Irving, Maloney, McCammon
McIntyre, McMahon, Pense, Snook
The Clerk read the minutes of the four last meetings
A Communication from James Agnew Esquire was read
In Re Assessment
On motion of Ald Allen, seconded by Ald McIntyre
Ordered, That the Mayor and Ald Harty be a
deputation from this Council, if necessary, to wait on the
Government at Toronto and the private Bells Committee in
regard to the passage of such legislation as may be necessary
to validate the last assessment made in this City
A communication from James Agnew City Solicitor
was read In Re Street cars ceasing to run
On motion of Ald McIntyre seconded by Ald Allen
Ordered, that relative to the communication of
the City Solicitor in regard to the "Street Railway Company the
suggestion of the City Solicitor be adopted, and the City
Clerk be instructed to write to the said company for an
explanation of their present stoppage
A Communication from James Agnew Esquire City
Solictor was in Re Stevenson vs City costs
A communication from Messrs Britton and Whiting was
read stating they are instructed to bring an action to recover
taxes paid under protest
On motion of Ald Pense seconded by Ald Harty
Ordered, That the letter of Messrs Britton and Whiting
regarding Mr Duffs taxes be referred to the Finance Committee
to report
Ald CF Gildersleeve here entered
A communication from Henry W Richardson was
read enclosing account for occupation of Stables
On motion, That the bill of Henry W Richardson
be referred to the Committee on Fire, Water and Gas to report
A requisition from City Clerk was submitted
Petitions from William Rentley, James Kirkpatrick and others
respecting taxes were submitted
On motion of Ald McCammon seconded by Ald Pense
Ordered, that the petitions of Wiliam Rentley, James
Kirkpatrick and others be referred to the Court of Revision
Ald Gaskin brought up the petition of John Flanagan
respecting
