Kingston May 31st 1880

A meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the City of Kingston was
held this day. Present:

His Worship The Mayor
Aldermen: Allen, Anglin, Clements, Doran, Fee, Gaskin, CF Gildersleeve,
JP Gildersleeve, Harty, Irving, Law, Maloney, McCammon, McGuire,
McIntyre, McMahon, McRossie, Pense, Snook, Wilson

The Clerk read the minutes of the last meeting

A communication from John Duff Esq was read respecting taxes
There was no action taken thereon

A requisition from the City Clerk for stationery was read and
referred to the Mayor

A Communication from Mr H Fuller, Esq was read respecting the
placing of Coal Oil Lamps above drill shed

On motion of Ald Gaskin seconded by Ald Gildersleeve
Ordered, That the Communication of Mr Fuller
in reference to lamps be referred to the Committee on Fire, Water
and Gas to report

A communication from James Agnew City Solicitor was read
in reference to the communications of the Post Office Officials
and Mr Power

On motion of Ald McIntyre seconded by Ald McRossie
Ordered, That the communication of the City
Solictor in regard to the claims of public officials for a refund of
taxes be referred with said claims to the Mayor in conjunction
with the City Solicitor to take such steps as may be necessary

A Communication from Michael A McGill was read asking
for remuneration from Council for services rendered

On motion of Ald Snook seconded by Ald Fee
Ordered, That the application of Michael A McGill
be referred to the Committee on Fire, Water and Gas to report

A Communication from Samuel Thornton was read asking
for exemption from taxes on his hotel for five years

On motion of Ald Gaskin seconded by Ald Snook
Ordered, That the communication of Samuel Thornton
be referred to the Committee on Finance for their serious
consideration owing to the great advantage of having a place
of the kind so near the City Buildings being very convenient for
the inner-man

A communication from James Doyle was read respecting broken
stone

On motion of Ald Gaskin seconded by Ald Allen
Ordered, That the communication of James Doyle
be referred to the Committee on Streets to report

Ald Pense brought up the petition of Patrick Delaney and
others asking for a Boardwalk on Montreal street

Ald Pense moves seconded by Ald McCammon
