A meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the City of Kingston
was held this day. Present
His Worship The Mayor
Aldermen: Allen, Anglin, Clements, Gaskin, CF Gildersleeve, JP Gilderseeve,
Harty, Irving, Law, Maloney, McCammon, McIntyre
McMahon, McRossie, Pense, Snook
The Clerk read the minutes of the last two meetings
A communication from J Waddingham & Son was read
asking for an exemption from taxation on their new planing
mill for ten years
On motion of Ald harty seconded by Ald McCammon
Ordered, That the prayer of the petition of Messrs Waddingham
& Son for freedom from taxation for ten years upon their new
planing mill be granted and that this resoltuion be considered
as notice for the submission of a By Law to that effect and
that this be considered the first reading
A communication from Messrs Kirkpatrick & Rogers was read in
re taxes of Messrs Gun, Skinner, and Brown
On motion of Ald McRossie seconded by Ald Pense
Ordered, That the communication of Messrs Kirkpatrick & Rogers
be referred to the Committee on back taxes to report
Ald Fee and Ald McGuire here entered
Ald Allen brought up the petition of the Directors of the House
of Industry respecting State of Charity
On motion of Ald Allen seconded by Ald Anglin
Ordered, That the petition of the Directors of the House of
Industry be referred to the Committee on Finance with the
House of Industry Committee to report
The Clerk submitted the Collector's return of taxes for the
year 1879
There was no action taken thereon
Ald McIntyre brought up the petition of Thomas Carter
praying for lamp on the corner of Princess and Nelson streets
On motion of Ald McIntyre seconded by Ald Law
Ordered, That the petition of Thomas Carter be referred to
the Committee on Fire, Water and Gas to report
