Mudie was read in the matter of Francis Munroe back
taxes.

On motion of Ald McGuire seconded by Ald Snook
Ordered, That the communication of Messrs
Macdonnell and Mudie be referred to the Committee
on back taxes to report

A communication from William Corbett & Co was
read on the subject of taxes.

On motion of Ald Snook seconded by Ald McGuire
Ordered, That the application of William
Corbett and Company be referred to the Court of Revision

A communication from Messrs Middleton & Gordon
was read asking for an extension of time to collect the
taxes - say to the first of March. There was no action
taken thereon

A communication from John McMillan was read
in Re taxes on the Fanny Campbell

On motion of Ald McCammon seconded by Ald Wilson
Ordered, That the communication of John Miller
be referred to the Court of Revision. Yeas 13 Nays 6

A requisition from the City Clerk was read and
referred to the Mayor

Applications for the Office of Assessor were read
from Charles F Ireland, Frederick J George, John C Innes,
T Merriott and William Massie Junior

Ald Gaskin moves seconded by Ald CF Gildersleeve
That CF Ireland be the assessor for the
year 1880, when not employed on the assessment of the
City or in that connection he is to assist the Treasurer in
his office or other work that may be required of him
by the Corporation - salary for year seven hundred dollars

In amendment 1st
Ald Dupuis moves seconded by Ald Allen
That the assessor be chosen by ballot - the one
getting the greater number of votes to be declared elected

In amendment 2nd
Ald Allen moves seconded by Ald Dupuis
That this Council do now ballot for three assessors
for the year 1880. The Mayor declared the second amendment
out of order - the first amendment being put was lost and
the original motion was carried
