integrity and of the loss which the City has sustained
by the death of a valuable public officer and a
worthy citizen and this Council further desires to
express its sympathy with the bereaved widow and
family in their affliction and trusts they may receive
comfort and consolation from the God of the fatherless
and the widows, and be it also resolved that a copy of
this resolution be forwarded to the widow.

A communication from the Police Commissioner was
read in regard to the proposal that the Chief of Police
should be appointed City Commissioner

On motion of Ald McKelvey seconded by Ald Harty
Ordered That the Communication of the Police
Commissioners be referred to the Committee on officers and
salaries to report.

A communication from Alexander Gunn Esquire was
read offering to sell Brock street Lot for $1620.97

On motion of Ald Carson seconded by Ald McIntyre
Ordered, That the communication of A Gunn & Co
be referred to the Committee on Fire, Water and Gas and
that said Committee ascertain the cost of a suitable
building for Fire purposes also to ascertain what the
present fire engine house and premises can be sold
for.

Aldermen Wilson, Snook, and McRossie here entered.

Applications from Allen Chadwick, W Wiltshire,
HA Betts, Lewis, Middleton and WL Gordon were read
asking to be appointed Collector of Taxes

A communication from John Shaw Esquire Secretary
Cataraqui Bridge Company was read making a demand
for the land at the west end of the Bridge lying on the
North side of the Barrack Wall up to Ontario street.

On motion of Ald Drennan seconded by Ald Allen
Ordered, That the communication of John Shaw
Secretary of the Bridge Company be referred to the Committee
on CIty Property to report.

Requisitions from the City Clerk and Messenger were
read and referred to the Mayor.

A communication from Messrs Beebe and West was read
requesting to be granted an auction license for the balance
of the year 1879 &c

On motion of Ald Snook seconded by Ald Carson
Ordered, That the letter of Beebe and West be
referred to the Committee on Licenses with power to act.

A communication from Samuel Shaw was read asking for
a shed to be erected on the Pound Earl Street

On motion of Ald Snook seconded by Ald Fee
Ordered, that the letter of Samuel Shaw be referred
to the Committee on City Property to report.
