Kingston February 24th, 1879

A meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the City of
Kingston was held this day. Present

His Worship the Mayor
Aldermen
Allen, Carson, Anglin, Fee, Gaskin, Gildersleeve
Harty, Irving, Mooers, McCammon, McDermott
McGuire, McIntyre, McKelvey, Oliver, Pense
Redden, Snook, Wilson

The Clark read the minutes of the last meeting

A Communication from Frances Ellington Esquire
County Clerk was read stating that Messrs Button, Fair
and Bell were appointed a Committee by the County Council
to confer with the City Council with a view of having better
accommodation afforded the farmers on the public market.

On motion of Ald McKelvey seconded by Ald Harty
Ordered, That the Communication of the County Clerk
be referred to the Committee on the Market said Committee
to meet Committee from County Council to ascertain their
wants and report.

A Communication from George A Kirkpatrick Secretary
Board of Trustees Kingston Collegiate Institute was read asking
for sixteen hundred dollars for current expenses of the School
and an additional grant of Three hundred and fifty dollars
for the purchase of furniture &c

On motion of Ald McCammon seconded by Ald Redden
Ordered, That the communication of G.A. Kirkpatrick
Esquire Secretary of Collegiate Institute be referred
to the Committee on Finance to report.

A Communication from Messrs Hewton & Hughes
was read requesting the rate of assessment on their
property on King Street remain at same valuation
as it was prior to their building thereon

On motion of Ald Pense seconded by Ald Carson
Ordred, That the communication of Messrs
Hewton and Hughes be referred to the Committee on
Finance to report.

A Communication from Mr Frederick Oliver
Manager Street Railway Company was read in Re
broken lamp post corner of Princess and Montreal
streets - there was no action taken thereon

A communication from William P Minnes, Collector
of Taxes was read relative to a return of uncollected
taxes and one from James Agnew City Solicitor was
read on the subject of an extension of time for the collection
of taxess - there was no action taken.

Ald Carson brought up the petition of William Daly
and 32 others praying for a drain on Princess street
commencing
