Kingston, July 29 1878

A Meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the City
of Kingston was held this day. Present

Aldermen
Allen, Anglin, Asselstine, Carson, Clements,
Drennan, Dupuis, Fee, Gaskin, Harty, Metcalfe,
Mooers, McCammon, McRossie, Pense, Thompson,
Walkem, Wilson, Woods.

The Mayor being absent, Alderman Drennan was
appointed Chairman.

The Clerk read the minutes of the two last meetings.

A Communication from Isaac Nobel and 9 others
calling the attention of the Council to the necessity of having
a Five alarm box placed at the corner of Bay and Rideau
streets &c

On motion of Ald McRossie seconded by Ald Carson.
Ordered, That the Communication of Isaac Noble
and others asking for a Fire alarm on the corner of Bay
and Rideau streets be referred to the Committee on Fire, Water,
and Gas to report.

The award In Re Peter Lamoureaux and the
Corporation of the City of Kingston for the extension of Grove
Street was read awarding the said Lamoureaux the
sum of One Hundred and fifty dollars in full of
all damages and that the City pay the costs of arbitration
thirty dollars.

A Communication from Mr LL Phippen
Secretary public School Board enclosing statement
of money required by the Board of Public School
Trustees of this City for the year 1878 - $12,000.

On motion of Ald Allen seconded by Ald Carson
Ordered, That the Communication of LL Phippen
relating to School Budget be referred to the
Committee on Finance to report.

Ald Mooers brought up the petition of Miss
B Doran and ten others praying that a drain be
constructed on Barrie Street between O'Kill and Stuart
streets.

On motion of Ald Mooers seconded by Ald Gaskin
Ordered, That the petition of B Doran and others
be referred to the Committee on Streets to report.

On motion of Ald Metcalfe seconded by Ald Dupuis
Ordered, That this Council hereby grant to the
Educational Society of Eastern Ontario a sum equal
to the Gas a/c against the City for Gas burned
during their session here last week.

On motion of Ald Gaskin seconded by Ald Mooers
Ordered, That Monday the 12th August next
