Ald Price brought up the petition of Vandewater and
Betts and 343 others praying for the location of a Fire Station
in some locality above Clergy street and praying for a thorough
reorganization of the Department.

On motion of Ald Price seconded by Ald Carson
Ordered, That the petition of Vandewater & Betts and about
fifteen hundred others be referred to the Committee on Fire
Water and Gas to report.

Ald Fee brought up the petition of the Kingston City
Mission and Poor Relief Association requesting the Council to
furnish employment for numbers of asking men out of
work.

On motion of Ald Fee seconded by Ald Metcalfe
Ordered, That the petition of the Kingston City Mission
and Poor Relief Association be referred to the Committee on
Streets to report at next meeting of this Council.

Ald Carson from the Committee on Finance & Accounts
brought up a Report (Number 513 Book D) which was read and
adopted.

The Chairman from the Committee on City Property brought
up a Report (Number 614 Book D) which was read and adopted.

Ald Drennan introduced A By Law to amend the Market
By Laws as to selling fresh meat which was read a first time.

Ald McRossie brought in a Report from William
Coverdale on the subject of the Kingston and Phillipsville Road
lying within South Crosby which was read.

On motion of Ald McRossie seconded by Ald Asselstine
Ordered, That the report of the City Engineer
be received and referred to the Committee on Streets
to report.

Reports from the Chief Engineer of the Fire
Department and Henry Youlden Engineer were read
the former enclosing statement of taxes during the year
and the latter on the state of the Department.

On motion of Ald McCammon seconded by Ald Gaskin
Ordered, That the reports of the Chief Engineer
of Fire Brigade and Henry Youlden be referred to the
Committee on Fire Water and Gas to report.

Applications from the following persons for the
Office of Assessor were submitted:
James M Dunlop, George Brown, John Holmes,
George W Creighton, B Nelligan, A McConaghey,
George McMahon, J Bastow, D Donoghue,
JJ Whitehead.

The Council proceeded to ballot for the office which
resulted in favor of George McMahon on first ballot.
Jeremiah Bastow on third ballot and Daniel
Donoghue on the seventh ballot.
