Kingston December 17, 1877

A meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the
City of Kingston was held this day. Present

His Worship the Mayor

Aldermen
Allen, Asselstine, Campbell, Carson, Clements,
Drennan, Dupuis, Gaskin, Gildersleeve,
Metcalfe, Mooers, McCammon, McDermott,
McIntyre, McRossie, Noble, Pense, Walkem

The Clerk read the minutes of the last meeting.

A Communication from James Swift was read requesting
permission to build addition to Wharf.

A Communication from James Agnew City Solicitor
was read giving his opinion therein.

On motion of Al Mcintyre seconded by Ald Noble
Ordered, That the Communication of Mr. James Swift
be referred to the Committee on Wharves and Harbor to
report, and that Mr. Swift be requested to furnish a map
of the locality and the contemplated improvement.

A Circular from the Directors of the Eye and Ear
Infirmary Toronto, A.J. McCord President was read
enclosing petitions for signature &c and requesting a small
donation towards it from the City.

On motion of Ald McIntyre seconded by Ald Walkem
Ordered, That the Communication of A.J McCord
be referred to the Finance Committee to report.

A Communicaiton from Hewton and Hughes was
read in reference to site for Flour MIll &c (No. 2 Marketj.

On motion of Ald Drennan seconded by Ald Allen
Ordered, That the Communication of Hewton and
Hughes be referred to the Committee on Finance to report.

A Communication from James Agnew City Solicitor was
read enclosing an agreement and understanding of
William Martin in Re Montreal Street.

On motion of Ald Walkem seconded by Ald McIntyre.
Ordered, That the Communication of James Agnew
be referred to the Committee on Streets.

The award in the matter of the Arbitration between
Catherine Murphy and John Murphy and the Corporation of
the City of Kingston was submitted to the Council awarding
to Catherine Murphy the sum of sixteen hundred and twelve
dollars in full compensation for land taken for Montreal street &c.

Applications for the office of City Engineer were read
from the following persons viz: R.J. Rowan, Thomas Bill Smyth,
William Massie Jr., G. Vandensteen, W.O. Strong, Wm Lake,
C.E. Dobbs, John Innes and William Coverdale.

Ald Carson moves seconded by Ald McCammon
That the applications for City Engineer be referred to
