Ordered, That the report of the deputation to Ottawa
be received and adopted and this Council desire to express
its satisfaction at the result of their mission.

The Chairman from the Committee on the Market
brought up a Report which was read.

Ald: Carson moves seconded by Ald: Gaskin
That the report of the Committee on the Market be
received and adopted.

In Amendment
Ald: Drennan moves seconded by Ald: Allen
That the report be not adopted but referred back
for further consideration - but being put was carried.
Yeas 10 Nays 9 and the original motion was lost.

The Chairman from the Committee on Licenses
brought up the Report (Number 552 Book D) which was
read and adopted.

The Chairman of the Court of Revision brought
up a Report from the Court on the petition of G.E. Ashley
and on the Communication of Mr. G.A Kirkpatrick on behalf
of the Canadian Engine and machinery Company which
was read and received.

On motion of Ald: Price seconded by Ald: McRossie
Ordered, That no money be expended on new works
or undertakings until the Finance Committee have brought
in their annual statement showing the financial position
of the City and the available means and necessary expenditure
for the present year.

A Communication from James Agnew Esquire City
Solicitor was read on the subject of Investigations into
Fires.

On motion of Alf: Price seconded McIntyre
Ordered, That in the opinion of this Council
the Chief of Police should place himself in correspondence
with the various Insurance Agents with a view to inquire
by legal investigation into the cause of such fires as
may occur during the remainder of the year, and that
the report to this Council if the Insurance Companies will
bear the expense. - Yeas 14 Nays 2

On motion of Ald: Carson seconded by Ald: McRossie
Ordered, That the sum of two hundred dollars
be placed to the credit of the Committee on Streets for
the purpose of paying for broken stone for streets in this
City.

On motion of Ald: Price seconded by Ald: Harty
Ordered, that the Mayor obtain the City Solicitor's
opinion as to whether or not the gardens in rear of St.
Georges Cathedral and in front of Regiopolis College
buildings are liable to assessment.

Ald: Gaskin introduced a By Law to regulate the sale or

weight
